Shona & Karl
Big Creek Lodge was a dream waiting to be found and offers Karl and Shona the opportunity to manage a working ranch and share the experience and beautiful area with guests from around the globe.
Always believe in the magic of your dreams.
Shona originally comes from Scotland and moved out west to chase her dreams to learn to cowboy and ride the Canadian mountains, so she knows what she expects from a good guest ranch, as she spent her first trips out west at a couple of guest ranches in Wyoming and Montana before coming to Canada where she got stuck at a guest ranch in Alberta for 5 years! She has spent her life working with horses in many disciplines, helping people learn to ride, train and enjoy horses. After cowboying for 2 summers in Wyoming and 5 years guiding in the Alberta Rockies, she met Karl and they have built a life together following each other’s passions.
Karl was born in British Columbia and brought up on a dairy farm. He has spent most of his life working with cattle across western Canada both in the dairy and the feed lot world. Karl knows cows inside out, but because of Shona he got on the back of a horse several years ago. So he is a rider as well, even if he still prefers to be on his own two feet or in a tractor. Karl is pretty handy at keeping the machinery running and maintaining the land to get the best crop possible, an important knowledge in the dry rocky soil of the Chilcotin.
